LED & Tourism

Overview

In terms of Section 84 of the Municipal Structures Act, the District is mandated to promote local tourism for the area of the District Municipality. A formal District LED/Tourism Forum structure was established on 21 January 2014, comprising Local Tourism Offices (LTO's) and municipal officials across the Overberg. This structure is coordinated and facilitated by the District and meets on a quarterly basis.

District LED/Tourism Strategy

Facilitated by the Provincial Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT), the Participatory Appraisal of Competitive Advantage (PACA) process was rolled out at all municipalities across the Overberg. LED and Tourism priorities were identified at these PACA sessions, informing a draft proposed LED/Tourism Strategy which is currently in place.

A District Collaborative Workshop is planned to prioritise strategic LED and Tourism objectives for the District. Outcomes and recommendations made will inform the final District LED/Tourism Strategy.
