Integrated Development Planning (IDP)
Overview
An Integrated Development Plan (or IDP for short) for the district municipality refers to a comprehensive strategic plan that outlines the development priorities, goals, and projects for a specific district area, taking into account social, economic, and environmental factors, with the aim of coordinating efforts across various departments within the municipality and engaging the community to improve quality of life for all residents over a set period, usually five years. Essentially, it's a roadmap for the district's future development, ensuring a holistic approach to addressing community needs.
Key aspects of an IDP in the district municipality:

Community engagement: A crucial element where the municipality actively involves residents through public meetings, surveys, and consultations to understand their needs and priorities for development.
- Needs analysis: A thorough assessment of the district's existing conditions, including demographics, infrastructure, economic activity, social challenges, and environmental concerns.
- Strategic priorities: Identifying key areas for development based on the needs analysis, such as housing, education, healthcare, job creation, sanitation, and environmental protection.
- Project identification: Developing specific projects aligned with the strategic priorities, including timelines, budget allocations, and responsible departments.
- Integration with other plans: Ensuring the IDP aligns with provincial and national development plans, as well as other municipal plans like spatial development frameworks.
- Monitoring and evaluation: Establishing mechanisms to track progress on projects, measure outcomes, and make necessary adjustments to the plan as needed.

Duties and responsibilities:
- Develop and manage integrated development plans for the Overberg District Municipality;
- Coordinate integrated development planning in the district;
- Manage the Intergovernmental Relations function; and
- Manage the Public Participation function and Coordinate it on a district level.
