OVERBERG COVID-19 VACCINATION WEEKLY UPDATE

To date, we have vaccinated 188 172 persons in the Overberg District, this includes health workers (as part of the Sisonke trial) and educators.

The rollout of the booster shots to health care workers who participated in the Sisonke trial continues in the Overberg. We thank them for doing the right thing in boosting their immunity as we move into the busy Festive period when the fourth wave is expected. We also call on all the other healthcare workers to take up this booster shot – not just for them, but for their patients they care for, and the loved ones they will be seeing over this period. “We want to keep you safe during the 4thwave. Please take the J&J booster vaccine, which is available now, to ensure you are protected. It has proven to be safe and effective,” says Dr Mouton, Clinical Manager in Overstrand Sub-District.

Six months into the COVID-19 vaccination rollout there are still people who are hesitant about getting vaccinated due to so much misinformation being circulated on social media. The Western Cape Department of Health continues to combat the spread of misinformation as it leads to false information which is then taken as the “truth”. The Department has throughout the pandemic, for more than 20 months kept the public informed through its credible, accurate information sharing portal on https://coronavirus.westerncape.gov.za/vaccine/

This portal is rich of accurate information, which includes:

  • Frequently Asked Questions about the vaccine
  • Vaccine safety in general
  • Vaccines and pregnancy
  • And much more

We once again appeal to everyone who has not yet been vaccinated, to visit this website and educate yourself with proven, research and scientific information on how the vaccine was developed, how safe it is and how great it protects you against the virus. We also encourage you to speak to your doctor, so that you get the facts from a source you trust.

We know not everyone has data to visit this website, which is why it is zero-rated and you do not need data to view or download any of the resources. If you know of someone who may not have access to technology, download and share the resources with them.

The right information is a fingertip away. Make the right choice, be informed by evidence and let it guide you in getting vaccinated.

Extending incentives to other age groups

The National Department has now also extended the R100 grocery voucher to those aged 50 years and older going for their first dose. So, when you go for your first dose, you are not only getting protection through vaccination, but you also get a R100 voucher to buy essentials.

Don’t delay, go today, and get vaccinated so you can be protected!
