The Overberg District has been administering more and more vaccinations weekly, with the increase in vaccine supply we have been able to administer 102 140 vaccines to date. Although we are currently vaccination more people per day than compared to previous weeks, we can do more, and we need you to play your part by coming for your vaccination.
Since the start of the vaccine rollout the following number of vaccines have been administered in these age groups:
Above 60: 48 433
50 – 59: 18 202
35 – 59: 22 199
18 – 34: 13 307
As we reach 800 COVID-19 related deaths in the Overberg, it is essential that we remain vigilant and continue with prevention measures. Our best weapon to fight COVID-19 is the vaccination which prevents serious illness and death from COVID-19. The vaccine is safe, thoroughly tested, and billions of people across the world have been safely vaccinated.
All vaccination sites in the Overberg District have received ample vaccines and can help walk-in clients. We urge all people older than 18 to please visit their nearest vaccine site. If you have difficulty registering on EVDS, we will be able to assist you with registration at the vaccination site. Please note the Department remains committed to ensure we prioritise our most vulnerable. Thus, people with comorbidities and older than 35, will be prioritised in the walk-in queues.
Over the past week the department of Health has gone above and beyond to ensure that our vulnerable are vaccinated. Our roving teams visited various farms and stores as well as local businesses. In Hermanus the department of Health in partnership with the Overstrand Municipality vaccinated some of the homeless and undocumented residing in the CBD.
We look forward to welcoming everyone over the age of 18 years to our vaccination sites. For more detail on vaccination sites in your area, visit https://coronavirus.westerncape.gov.za/vaccine-dashboard.
We thank everyone who has come forward for vaccination already and ask them to further support us by being vaccine ambassadors. Those who will be going for vaccination, if you know of someone who has not yet been vaccinated, bring them with!
